About us
At Sociis Education, we believe that parents have a right to decide What their children learn and Why. Yet, it is not easy to choose the right homeschooling program or ‘curriculum’, especially when each child has different learning styles and cognitive strengths. There are so many wonderful resources for homeschooling parents, and many already have the materials they feel are best or their family. Now imagine if you had a caring, experienced, professional educator at your disposal to assist you in being the best, most effective teacher you can be in your home. Sociis is Latin for “Partner”. We are your dedicated partners in educating your children. With Sociis, you can take the reins of your child’s education, supported by a team of professional educators.
What We Provide
Initial Consultation and Planning
We start by meeting with you, the parents, to understand where each of your children are at cognitively and socially. Becoming acquainted with their unique learning styles, interests, and your goals for them. Are they where you want them to be? Do they need to catch up a bit or overcome a learning disability? Are you unsure of how to challenge one of them? Listening to you, together, we’ll create a game plan tailored to each child’s needs, using the materials and resources you have already.
Evaluation of Materials
If you are trying to decide on the program or resources you want to use, we are happy to help you clarify your educational philosophies and guide you to the program that fits your desires for them. If you already have a program or resources you like and are pleased with, then we can help you by quickly ascertaining what the objectives of the program are in relation to your educational philosophies and give suggestions on ways to build upon or modify slightly so as to meet each child’s needs. Thus helping you to use the programs you want in the most effective way possible for each child.
Materials Provided by Sociis
You will have access to additional resources and materials provided by Sociis Education to enhance your child’s learning experience. We may create an assessment for you to help you measure the growth and progress of your children. We might direct you to a resource that will help you to fill in any learning gaps. We can even help you with planning for your upcoming lessons and answer any questions you may have as far as methods or strategies. If there is a way to take something off your plate so that you can be more confident as a teacher, we are happy to build, create, and share ideas, activities and resources.
Weekly Meetings
Each week, you and your Sociis partner will have a 30-minute one-on-one meeting (in person or via zoom) to discuss your child and to address questions you may have, offer suggestions, and provide you with some much-needed encouragement. We will schedule a 30-min meeting for each of your children. That way each child’s needs and progress gets personalized attention weekly. The time is intended to support you, as the teacher, but can also include discussions with you and your child. They become our friends just as much as you do.
Evaluations/Assessments
Some homeschooling parents are unsure how to accurately know where their child is with a concept or topic and how to confidently know how to use assessment results to guide their next lessons. If it is helpful, we can create regular assessments to help you monitor and evaluate your child’s progress. As good as so many of the programs and resources for homeschoolers are, many are not designed to take on the tricky and very individual task of finding and using proper interventions for your child specifically. That is a complex skill that you, as the teacher, can utilize to help your child quickly overcome barriers to their learning and be able to continue their progress. Count on us to support and even guide you through that task.
Instructional Methodology and Strategies Support
There are many different ways to teach. And there are certain methods and strategies that are most effective and preferred, depending on your personal educational philosophies. We are equipped to give you guidance, instruction, and coaching in whatever methods and strategies you want. We can help you identify your preferred pedagogy, and then assist you in becoming a master at it.
